The Yiga are one of the most fascinating lore additions from Breath of the Wild. Evil Sheikah who team up with Ganon? Heck yeah. Oh, and they’re doing this because the King betrayed or exiled them for some reason? Who was in the wrong there? What happened? What ends are they hoping for that they’d switch completely over to Ganon of all people? And they kill the families of deserters? Monstrous! And of course, what’s with the bananas?!
And most interesting of all was the oft-repeated leader of the Yiga. Kohga. What was his deal? How did he related to Ganon? What kind of monster could lead such an unhinged cult of treacherous mirror images to the Sheikah? Suffice it to say, he was quite the disappointment to expectation. Although he is funny and a high-personality character and I’m happy for what he is and – lets face it, Cult leaders are the worst and should always be depicted as the worst – I still held onto that idea of a different take on Kohga. A Kohga betrayed, disillusioned to the cycle of Hyrule’s history, who just wants to see it all burn down.
So here it is!
