I wanted to like the reboot Thundercats a lot, as the original series was a childhood favorite. The first episodes were great! Great world-building, the politics of the land felt believable and full of complexity. The morals felt deep, the characters felt real. Solid start! But then, almost immediately, it felt like a totally different group of writers took over, and the mandate was to be episodic and cartoony. Lion-O would keep ‘learning’ the same lesson, and then promptly forget it next episode and maybe have to learn it again. Consistency was not a priority. And then the switch-up decisions they made felt more like shock value trying to drum up engagement than any memorable storytelling.
Anywho, that’s what this piece was all about, a little venting.
